3…2…1…New York

New York, New York, so good they named it twice and all that jazz, if you’re heading to the Big Apple any time soon here’s 3 steals, 2 spends and a splurge for you to  enjoy.

3 Steals

Sleep: Hudson Hotel

Accomodation does not come cheap in New York and finding somewhere cheap is virtually impossible. Word of warning, the Hudson Hotel is not cheap, but in terms of value it might just be one of the best hotels the city has to offer. Rooms are tiny (there’s over 800 of them) but they all have WiFi, a flat screen TV and an iPod docking station as well as you having access to the gym. On top of this the Hudson has it’s own restaurant and a private park as well as a rooftop terrace and two bars one of which is situated in their in-hotel library with a jazz night every week.

Eat: Katz’s Deli

Katz’s Deli is on the Lower East Side and is a no frills, classic New York deli. Salami hang from the ceilings and the whole place has a grungy feel. It’s been going strong since 1888 and today it is widely considered the best deli in New York with thousands of tourists and locals alike flocking there every day for their hot dogs or pastrami sandwiches. Film buffs will recognise it as the location where Meg Ryan had her famous fake orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally.

Located in Brooklyn, the Sunken Hundred is New York’s newest and finest Welsh inspired restaurant. Sunken Hundred even imports Welsh ingredients for a truly authentic taste and has a unique and diverse cocktail list to complement their menu. They’ve proven to be a hit with Brooklyn based actors Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell who star on the hit show ‘The Americans’ and the restaurant has even started Welsh classes.

It’s tagline is ‘not your average stationary store’ and they’re pretty much right. Quirky, unique and very ‘New York’ the Greenwich Letterpress sells a huge variety of cards, stationary and collectibles. Many of their products feature pop-culture references or New York culture, they do great enamel pins that cost $12 a pop.
